AI AI Barbie – four videos to contemplate smart toy's influence

AI is increasingly making its way into the world of toys. In the research program AI AI Barbie & Other Smart Toys, SETUP and Waag Futurelab explore how smart toys are influencing our daily lives—through four key themes: parenting, identity, imagination, and socialization. At the heart of the project lies one big question: what role do we actually want artificial intelligence (AI) to play in our families and in raising our children?

For AI AI Barbie, I was asked to create four videos, each centered on one of these themes. The videos were used during a mini AI hackathon for parents, children, and experts, aimed at developing new frameworks for the responsible use of AI in toys. Together with SETUP, I co-wrote four different scenarios, which I then brought to life in the videos.
